What VeriSwitch SmartShield is, as published
VeriSwitch Solutions describes SmartShield as call-fraud detection for telecommunications carriers. According to veriswitch.com/smartshield (checked 14 September 2026), it analyzes live calls on the A-leg "non-intrusively", in the media path without rerouting, applies AI and machine learning to behavioural and contextual call patterns across several dozen languages, and reports detected fraud with notifications. Its "TCPA compliance insights" are, by the page's own account, not a comprehensive evaluation, and automated blocking of confirmed scam campaigns is described as a future enhancement. The page publishes no pricing, accuracy figures or certifications, and presents SmartShield as part of VeriSwitch's hosted switch platform and "complete carrier management solution".

SmartShield entries are what its product page states; "not published" means the page does not say, not that the product lacks it. Open Voice Shield entries describe the running product. Checked 14 September 2026.
| Area | VeriSwitch SmartShield | Open Voice Shield |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Telecommunications carriers. | Anyone with a SIP trunk: carriers and wholesale, contact centres, CPaaS, CCaaS and UCaaS platforms. |
| Deployment | Non-intrusive analysis integrated into the media path, no rerouting. | One SIP hop you route to (IP whitelist, prefix routing, tech prefix). The call is relayed onward as your own From and To. Fails closed to your alternate route. |
| Works with your switch | Presented as part of VeriSwitch's hosted switch and carrier management solution. The site invites contact to discuss integration elsewhere. Support for a third-party switch: not published. | Any switch, SBC or SIP trunk, since it is a SIP hop you route to. Connect guides for Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, PortaOne, Ribbon SBC, AudioCodes, Jambonz, Twilio and Telnyx are in the documentation. |
| What is analyzed | Live calls on the A-leg: behavioural and contextual patterns, several dozen languages. | The whole conversation of every call (or 1 in N, your choice): recorded in stereo, transcribed, read for fraud and TCPA. The detected language is on the record. |
| Depth of analysis | Not published. | Set per destination: relay only (SIP and media pass through, metered, nothing recorded), record only (stereo recording and SIP log, no transcript or fee), full analysis, or 1 in N with the rest recorded and analysable on demand. The AI mode (Economy, Power, Max) is set per account. |
| Data retention | Not published. | Published rules: independent retention windows for recordings, captures and SIP logs with real deletion at expiry. What is kept indefinitely is listed on the security page. Account removal on request. |
| While the call is up | Real-time analysis. The page does not describe an operator view. | Live calls page and a line inspector per call: the SIP ladder as traced, post-dial delay, codec, and both media legs' packet counters from the relay. Scoring during the call is set up on request. |
| What comes back | Detected fraud with detailed notifications; comprehensive reporting. | Per call: probability, category, impersonated entity, red flags, summary, a TCPA note, per-leg estimated MOS, jitter and loss, the SIP log, the recording and the packet capture. |
| TCPA insights | TCPA compliance insights, stated as not a comprehensive evaluation. | A TCPA note on every verdict, read from the words said, also not legal advice. Cases, shareable evidence links and a PDF report for the compliance file. |
| Enforcement | Automated blocking of confirmed campaigns described as a future enhancement. | Automation rules today: block or divert a flagged number's next call, including diverting it to an AI voice agent that wastes the scammer's time. |
| Route integrity | Not published. | Delayed-playback and early-answer false answer supervision detected on live traffic, with a route alert beside the verdict. |
| Voice AI | Not published. | A gateway from plain-UDP SIP to OpenAI and xAI voice agents, agent transfers carried out by the platform, and test calls placed by an agent. |
| Integrations | Notifications and reporting. | E-mail and Slack alerts, signed webhooks, a REST API, and an MCP server an AI agent can operate from the OAuth sign-in to the verdict. |
| Pricing | Not published. | Published: a per-minute plan rate plus one analysis fee per checked call, prepaid, $5 free credit at signup. |
| Time to first result | Not published. | The same afternoon: whitelist an IP, add a destination, place a test call from the browser. |

How to decide
Which one fits your situation
Neither product fits every network. The right one depends on how your calls are routed and what you need from each one.
- You run a switch that is not VeriSwitch's
- Open Voice Shield sits behind any switch, SBC or trunk as the next SIP hop and needs no change on the far end. SmartShield is presented as part of VeriSwitch's own platform. Ask the vendor whether and how it runs with yours.
- You are a carrier and calls must not be rerouted
- SmartShield is built for passive, non-intrusive analysis of the A-leg with no change to routing. Open Voice Shield requires that you route the trunk through it.
- You must be able to prove what was said on a call
- Open Voice Shield records every call it carries and keeps the transcript, the SIP log and the packet capture with the verdict. Ask any vendor what evidence accompanies a detection before you rely on it in a dispute.
- You need action on the flagged number now
- Open Voice Shield applies automation rules on the number's next call today. SmartShield's page describes automated blocking as a future enhancement. Ask the vendor for its current status.
- You are a contact centre, CPaaS or CCaaS platform
- SmartShield is presented for carriers. Open Voice Shield is priced and onboarded for any trunk owner, with a free credit and a same-day test call.
Live, then thorough
See the packets while the call is up, read the words after it ends
The line inspector shows the SIP ladder, post-dial delay, codec and both media legs while the call runs, then the recording, transcript and verdict after the BYE.
The line inspector, during and after the call
The relay carries both legs, so the line inspector shows a call as it runs: the INVITE and every reply on the ladder, the post-dial delay and codec the moment they are known, and the packet counters of each media leg, updated from the relay. When the far end stops sending, you see it there during the call rather than in a complaint the next day.
After the BYE the same panel fills in the pipeline: the stereo recording, the transcript, the verdict with its red flags, the TCPA note and the audio quality of each leg. If your process needs a record you can forward, that is what to check for in any product.
You set the depth
From SIP-only relay to a voice agent on the line, per destination
Each destination gets its own depth, and the fee follows the depth you choose.
Relay only, record only, full analysis, a voice agent
- Relay only
- The call is authorised, routed and metered. SIP and media pass through and the record keeps the CDR facts. Nothing is recorded, transcribed or scored, and no SIP log is kept. Gateway mode for traffic you only want carried.
- Record only
- The stereo recording and the SIP log are kept, with per-leg audio quality. There is no transcript, verdict or analysis fee. Any call can be analyzed later on demand.
- Full analysis
- Recording, transcript, fraud and TCPA verdict, red flags, route check. Analyze every call, or 1 in N with the rest recorded. A caller under a control, in an open case, or on a route with a recent alert is always analyzed.
- A voice agent on the line
- Route a destination to an AI voice agent and the platform handles the agent's transport, speech in both directions and transfers, while the call is still relayed, recorded and scored like any other if you want it to be.
Also in your hands
- The AI mode per account (Economy, Power, Max) moves only the per-call analysis fee. The modes are documented.
- Analysis can run entirely on our own servers, with no third-party AI involved.
- Retention windows for recordings, captures and SIP logs are enforced with real deletion. What is kept indefinitely is on the security page.
- Every recording, capture, transcript and SIP log is downloadable, and a read-only link can be shared and revoked.
- Users, API keys and passkeys are managed per account. Removal of an account's content is done on request.
TCPA insights
A compliance note on every call, with the words that produced it
SmartShield's page says its TCPA insights are not a comprehensive evaluation. Neither are ours, and no automated reading of a call is. What differs is the evidence under the note.
What the note reads, and what goes in the compliance file
Every Open Voice Shield verdict reads the conversation for the things a TCPA claim turns on: whether the caller identified themselves and who they said they were, consent and its absence, opt-out requests and how they were handled, and the marketing nature of the call. The note quotes the moments that matter, and the recording and transcript sit beside it.
For the compliance file there is a case per caller, a PDF report per call, and a read-only link you can hand to counsel. The TCPA page explains what the platform can and cannot tell you, and what one violation costs puts the per-call exposure in dollars.
Fit
Where SmartShield may be the better choice
A carrier that wants purely passive analysis of the A-leg, with no change to routing, no per-call charge and nothing in the media path, should look at SmartShield. Open Voice Shield sits in the media path, because that is where the recording, the evidence and the enforcement come from, and it is billed per analyzed minute and per checked call.
If you want both, they do not conflict. Route the trunks whose calls you must be able to prove through the hop, and leave network-wide campaign analysis to a passive system. Many teams start with one call in ten through Open Voice Shield for a week and decide from the verdicts.
What we do not claim
- No accuracy, precision or recall figure: none has been computed against labelled real calls.
- No self-serve real-time scoring: standard mode scores after the hang-up and acts on the next call. Realtime mode is set up on request.
- No legal finding: the verdict is an analyst's read with evidence attached, and the TCPA note is not legal advice.
- No certifications we do not hold. Security practices are on the security page.
Known limits of Open Voice Shield today
The product as it runs today. Items marked as planned are on the public issue tracker.
- Realtime scoring is on request
- In standard mode transcription and scoring run after the BYE, usually within minutes, and the block or divert applies to the number's next call. Realtime mode scores the call while it is up. It is set up on request and costs more. SmartShield's page describes real-time analysis.
- In the path only
- Open Voice Shield must carry the call to record and score it. There is no passive tap or SIPREC mode yet (planned). If your calls cannot be rerouted, this is the deciding point.
- Codecs analyzed
- G.711, G.722, G.729 and G.723.1 calls are transcribed and scored. GSM, iLBC and Opus calls are relayed, recorded and billed, but not transcribed yet (planned).
- Languages
- The transcript records the language it detected on each call, but we publish no list of supported languages. SmartShield's page claims several dozen.
- Two regions
- Recordings and the media relay are in Canada by default, or the United States per account, with other regions on request. Call records and analyses stay in Canada. Latency from far-away trunks adds to post-dial delay.
- Agent transfers use platform capacity
- When the platform carries out a voice agent's transfer, it bridges the caller to the new leg itself. Long transferred calls occupy that capacity for their duration.
- No labelled-corpus benchmark, no certification
- No accuracy figure has been computed against labelled real calls, and we hold no third-party security certification. What is measured is on the white paper. What we do for security is on the security page.
Questions
VeriSwitch SmartShield alternative: what people ask
Is Open Voice Shield an alternative to VeriSwitch SmartShield?
Yes, for operators who want the recording, the transcript and an action on the number with every verdict. Open Voice Shield is one SIP hop that records every call, returns a fraud and TCPA verdict with the transcript and red flags as evidence, shows signalling and media while the call is up, and blocks or diverts the number's next call. It is self-serve with published pricing.
What is VeriSwitch SmartShield?
As published on veriswitch.com/smartshield (checked 14 September 2026), SmartShield is a call-fraud detection product for telecommunications carriers. It analyzes live calls on the A-leg non-intrusively, integrated in the media path without rerouting, uses AI and machine learning for behavioural and contextual analysis in several dozen languages, and provides TCPA compliance insights that the page says are not a comprehensive evaluation. Automated blocking is described as a future enhancement. No pricing is published.
What is the main difference between the two?
SmartShield is positioned as non-intrusive analysis that returns detections and reports. Open Voice Shield sits in the path: it relays and records the call, so every verdict comes with the recording, the transcript, the SIP ladder and per-leg audio quality, and enforcement is built in through automation rules on the number's next call.
Does Open Voice Shield analyze calls in real time?
While a call is up you see the SIP ladder, post-dial delay, codec and both media legs' packet counters live in the line inspector. In standard mode the transcript, verdict and TCPA note are produced after hang-up, typically within minutes, and the number's next call is where a block or divert applies. Realtime mode, set up on request at a higher cost, scores the call while it is still up. Nothing is injected into the live audio.
Can I control how much of a call is analyzed?
Yes, per destination: relay only (SIP and media pass through, metered, nothing recorded), record only (recording and SIP log, no transcript or analysis fee), full analysis, or 1 in N with the rest recorded and analysable on demand. The AI mode is set per account and moves only the per-call analysis fee. Retention windows for recordings, captures and SIP logs are enforced with real deletion.
Does it give TCPA compliance insights?
Every verdict carries a TCPA note read from the conversation: consent and identification cues, opt-out handling, and the signs that matter for a claim. It is a reading of the words said on the call, not legal advice and not a comprehensive compliance evaluation.
Do I need a particular switch to use Open Voice Shield?
No. It works with any SIP switch, SBC or trunk you run, as the next hop you route to: Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, PortaOne, Ribbon, AudioCodes, Jambonz, Twilio, Telnyx or anything else that sends an INVITE. The connect guides cover each. VeriSwitch presents SmartShield as part of its own hosted switch and carrier management solution. Whether it runs with a third-party switch is not stated on its site, so ask the vendor.
Do I need to be a carrier to use it?
No. Anyone who runs a SIP trunk can point it at Open Voice Shield: carriers and wholesale operators, contact centres, CPaaS and CCaaS platforms. Whitelist an IP, add a destination, place a test call. There is no minimum volume and a free credit covers the first calls.
What does it cost compared with SmartShield?
Open Voice Shield publishes its prices: a per-minute rate on the plan plus one analysis fee per checked call, prepaid, with a free credit at signup. VeriSwitch does not publish SmartShield pricing on its product page (checked 14 September 2026), so a direct figure cannot be given here. The pricing page has the current rates.
When is SmartShield the better fit?
When you are a carrier that wants purely passive analysis of the A-leg with no change to routing and no per-call fee, or when nothing may touch the media path. Open Voice Shield sits in the media path, and that is where its recording, evidence and enforcement come from.
Next step
Put one call through it
Whitelist an IP, point a trunk, place one test call from the browser: the first verdict lands the same afternoon. Or hand the whole setup to an agent.
